Excerpt from Introduction by Rolf Knight

Homer Steven's story is a witness to a half century of involvement in the fishing industry both as a working fisherman and as a leader of the United Fishermen and Allied Workers' Union. It is told in his words and is not intended as either a formal history of that union or as a historical overview of the BC fishing industry. Yet it does weave elements of these topics together. Homer's account is rich in the past geography of the coast, and he speaks of changes and continuities in work and of economic struggles from firsthand experience. Some will seem like distant history, some as if it happened just yesterday.
