Today CBC's This Morning celebrated National Poetry Month and the one-year anniverary of Al Purdy's death (he died on Good Friday, 2000) by airing a roundtable discussion on Canada's greatest poet. Host Shelagh Rogers shared Purdy anecdotes and poems with authors Patrick Lane, Tim Bowling, Sam Solecki, Susan Musgrave and Steven Heighton. Bowling read an excerpt of his elegy for Purdy, "Elegy for an Elegist", from his brilliant new poetry collection Darkness & Silence. Musgrave read "Say the Names" and Solecki read "The Last Picture in the World", both new poems in Purdy's final book, Beyond Remembering: The Collected Poems of Al Purdy.
Beyond Remembering and other Purdy books are available in good bookstores across the country.
