JUNE 9, 2004

Bonfires, Chris Banks debut poetry collection, published by Nightwood Editions as a Junction Book—is the winner of the Canadian Authors Association Jack Chalmers Poetry Award. Sponsored by the Canadian Authors Association, this award honours writing “that achieves excellence without sacrificing popular appeal.” The $2,500 prize and accompanying silver medal will be presented at the University of British Columbia on June 27, 2004. "We are thrilled Chris is receiving national recognition for his first book,” says Silas White, Publisher of Nightwood Editions. “He’s an incredible poet and he makes us very proud.”
