Sunshine Coast Authors Read in Sechelt

Posted: December 5, 2005

Join poet Amanda Lamarche as she launches her debut poetry collection,
The Clichéist  on Wednesday, December 7 at the
Sunshine Coast Arts Centre, 5714 Medusa Street in Sechelt at 7:30pm.

Amanda will be joined by award-winning novelist and poet Tim Bowling, who will be reading from recent work, including poems from The Memory Orchard (Brick Books) and The Witness Ghost.

The Clichéist is a work of imaginative grace and power. Larmarche’s poems topple the normal hierarchy of everyday concerns, promoting fears unlikely in the “normal” state of beingthe fear of buttons, of dying to the wrong song, of houses built on cornersto the same stage and emotional impact as the more common (perhaps more clichéd) fears of car crashes and collapsing bridges.

Tim Bowling has published six collections of poetry to considerable praise, including Dying Scarlet, winner of the 1998 Stephan G. Stephansson Award for poetry; Darkness and Silence, winner of the Canadian Authors Association Award for Poetry; and The Witness Ghost and The Memory Orchard, both shortlisted for the Governor General's Literary Award for Poetry. He has also published the novels Downriver Drift  and most recently The Paperboy’s Winter (Penguin), which was nominated for the One Book, One Vancouver Award. A native of the West Coast, he spent many years in Edmonton and now lives in Gibsons, where he is constantly at work on new poetry and fiction.

Admission to the reading is free and refreshments will be served. For more information about the event, please contact Harbour Publishing at 604-883-2730 or email
