Authors plan an “enchanting” visit to the Gulf Islands

Wednesday, November 8, 2007

The authors of Enchanted Isles, David A.E. Spalding and Kevin Oke,
will be visiting these islands this November:

· Pender – Talisman Books & Gallery (Unit 6, Driftwood Centre) on Saturday November 10 at 4pm.
· Galiano – Galiano Books (76 Madrona Drive) on Sunday November 12 at 2pm.
· Salt Spring – Salt Spring Books, event held at All Saints by the Sea (110 Park Drive) on Saturday November 24 at 7pm.

Enchanted Isles offers an insider’s perspective on the unique beauty and charm of the southern Gulf Islands that run along the coast between Victoria and Nanaimo. This gorgeous coffee-table book is sure to be a hit with island dwellers and tourists alike.

Both the author, David A.E. Spalding and the photographer, Kevin Oke are long-time residents of the gulf islands so they are able to offer the valuable knowledge available only to true islanders.

Brimming with gorgeous colour photography by Oke, Enchanted Isles begins with a historic overview detailing how the islands served as a favoured hideaway for some of BC’s most distinguished eccentrics. Remittance men and other escapees from British stuffiness form one stream of islanders, but there have been many others.

Enchanted Isles showcases local wildlife, captures local character and history and offers insider tips for visitors. It is a spectacular book that shows why the Gulf Islands rank with Whistler and the Pacific Rim as one of the most popular tourist destinations in BC.
