Like a Rock book signing in Langley

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Like a Rock author Tom Zytaruk will sign copies of his new book, Like a Rock: The Chuck Cadman Story, at Chapters Langley (20015 Langley By-Pass, Unit 115) on Saturday April 26th at 3pm.

Before his political life, Surrey Independent MP, Chuck Cadman was regarded by his Surrey BC neighbours as a bit of a couch potato. Despite the ponytail left over from his days as a rock musician, he had settled into a nine-to-five job and seemed content to pay down the mortgage, watch TV, drink a few beers and enjoy family life.

Then, on October 17, 1992 the Cadman’s beloved sixteen-year-old son Jesse was
senselessly murdered by a teenage delinquent, and Chuck’s laid-back life
changed forever. Overnight, the quiet homebody was transformed into an inspired public advocate for stricter treatment of violent offenders and more compassionate treatment of victims of crime. He became a rallying figure for people across Canada growing impatient with tolerant attitudes toward youth crime, and in 1997 the people of Surrey North elected him as their Member of Parliament.

In Ottawa, Chuck kept his focus and made himself one of the most authoritative voices on the parliamentary justice committee. He also kept his ponytail and blue jeans and his reputation as a straight shooter respected by all parties.

Like a Rock is a moving account of an ordinary man who was faced with an extraordinary challenge and not only rose to the occasion, but did so in a way that set an example for all people.
