Dachsel Lights up Alberta with Bright New Poetry
September 9, 2008
Join poet Marita Dachsel as she reads from her stunning debut collection of poems, All Things Said & Done (Caitlin Press, $15.95). Marita will be reading at the Edmonton Poetry Festival on Thursday, September 11. Edmonton's Stroll of Poets Society pulls out all the stops once again to kick off this year's festival with an event that features rapid-fire poetry: 75+ poets, 30 seconds at the microphone each. Doors open at 6:30pm and the show begins at 7:00pm at The Artery, 9535 Jasper Avenue. On Saturday, September 13 Marita performs again at The Café Readings, which happen between 3:10pm and 4:20pm. Later in the month, on Saturday, September 27, Marita will read at “Arts on the Ave”—a creative coalition that blends artistic expressions into an educational, mentoring and sharing environment.
Marita Dachsel’s poetry playfully and poignantly documents the moments of life that stand out in the pages of a family album and the intervals of memory—she perceptively sprinkles these moments with the details that photographs don’t reveal. Marita was born and raised in Williams Lake, BC, and has lived in Kamloops, Dawson City, Auckland, New Zealand and Montpellier, France. She has an MFA in creative writing from UBC and has been published widely in Canadian literary journals. She currently lives in Vancouver, BC.
