Meet Mike McCardell!

Posted: October 9, 2008

Join renowned news reporter and author Mike McCardell at a reading and book signing for The Blue Flames that Keep Us Warm at the George Mackie Library, 8440-112th Street in Delta, on Saturday, October 11 at 2:00pm.

One of Western Canada’s most beloved media personalities, Mike McCardell has spent the last 32 years on Global BC’s News Hour showing that the truly important events that make our world go round are not the wars and murders that grab the headlines, but the little things that happen on back streets to people we never hear about.

In The Blue Flames that Keep Us Warm, Mike shares the story behind “Captain” Bruce Hutchinson, who turned his apartment into a live-in model of a navy submarine, complete with rigging, radar and cannon. And meet Malik, the Muslim parking lot attendant who decorates his ticket booth with a plastic manger scene because “I want to be part of this country and Christmas is my favourite part.”

McCardell will also be publishing a new book this fall, Getting to the Bubble: Finding Magic Amid the Urban Roar, which will be published later this month.

For more information about the reading, please phone the George Mackie Library at 604-594-8155.
