June 13, 2011

Congratulations to Nightwood Editions poet Shane Rhodes, who won the 2011 National Magazine Award for Poetry for his two poems, "Pearl" and "The Body," which were originally published in The Malahat Review.

The National Magazine Awards Foundation is a bilingual, not-for-profit institution whose mission is to recognize and promote excellence in the content and creation of Canadian print and digital publications through an annual program of awards and national publicity efforts. This years' awards, the 34th annual National Magazine Awards, were given at a gala at The Carlu in Toronto. The gala, hosted by Jacqueline Hennessy, saw more than 600 members of the Canadian magazine industry as the National Magazine Awards Foundation presented Gold, Silver and Honourable Mention awards in 43 categories, from a total of 379 nominations representing 88 different Canadian magazines.

Shane Rhodes' two winning poems also appear in Err, his new book of poetry, published by Nightwood Editions.
