Congratulations to Anne Emberline, who has won the Harbour Publishing Word on the Street raffle. Anne has won three books, all of which celebrate Vancouver's 125th Anniversary. The first is Chuck Davis's History of Metropolitan Vancouver. The late Chuck Davis was a broadcaster, journalist and historian, and his book, representing 125 years of the history of Vancouver is, as he had hoped, "fun, fat and filled with facts". The other two books in the raffle were also selected to be part of the collection of Vancouver 125 Legacy Books, which is a project that aims to bring ten classic Vancouver books back into print. Opening Doors in Vancouver's East End: Strathcona is an book of oral histories of members of the Strathcona Community, edited by Daphne Martlatt and Carole Itter. A Hard Man to Beat: The Story of Bill White: Labour Leader, Historian Shipyard Worker, Raconteur is about the hugely important West Coast Canadian Labour Movement in the '40s and '50s and the pivotal man behind it— Bill White—told in his own voice.
