Gubby Authors on Tour!
Monday, April 21, 2014 at 4:41pm
Acclaimed children’s authors Kim La Fave and Gary Kent are on tour! Their new book, Gubby Builds a Boat, is a sequel to Fishing with Gubby, which was nominated for several awards when it was published in 2010, including the Governor General’s Literary Award for Children (illustration) and a BC Book Prize for best book published in BC.
In Gubby Builds a Boat, Gubby, his nephew Cam and his cat Puss, are headed home to Gibsons on Gubby’s beloved fishing troller, the Flounder, when they begin taking on water. After a trip to Grumpy Bob’s shop to see what’s wrong, it becomes apparent that Gubby needs a new boat. He travels to Steveston to see Minoru, a Japanese boat builder, who guides him through all the steps of building a new wooden gillnetter.
Kent and La Fave have already been to Madeira Park, Sechelt, Nanaimo and Duncan. They will also be visiting more communities—we hope you will drop in to say hi, and maybe pick up a copy of the “Build Your Own Gubby Boat” kit, so you can build your own paper model of Gubby's new boat, the Flounder Too!
