The Zero Mile Diet CookbookThere are few better ways to enjoy the holiday season than to indulge in locally sourced, sustainable meals with family and friends. Carolyn Herriot’s The Zero-Mile Diet Cookbook: Seasonal Recipes for Delicious Homegrown Food contains over 160 recipes using homegrown ingredients, and is full of ideas for connecting with the environment that surrounds us. She will be launching the book in Victoria at Spinnakers Gastro Brew Pub (308 Catherine Street) on Monday, December 17 from 4pm to 6pm. Come by for a some of the tasty recipes featured in the book and a complimentary drink. Admission is free.

The Zero-Mile Diet Cookbook is full of creative strategies for ensuring food security, sustainability and a healthy lifestyle, and also contains practical advice, including tips on preserving food with various storage techniques, as well as instructions for canning, dehydrating, pickling and fermenting.

This cookbook is the product Herriot’s concerted effort over the past twelve years to grow as much of her own food as possible. She has found that growing food leads to a good, healthy and happy life. Carolyn Herriot is a passionate organic gardener, as well as a photographer, lecturer and cook who loves to eat. In addition to The Zero-Mile Diet Cookbook, she is also the author of The Zero-Mile Diet: A Year-Round Guide to Growing Organic Food and A Year on the Garden Path: A 52-Week Organic Gardening Guide. She lives and grows her own food in Victoria, BC.
