From Mike Harling "The 13th Annual PGI Golf Tournament for Literacy BC (July 9) was a success in every way. The undisputed highlight was Howard White, the poet laureate. Dressed in period costume--"I'll always remember this as my first day wearing pantyhose"--Howard delivered a memorable poem that paid tribute to past poets laureate and finished with an especially poignant reminder of the importance of literacy.
Once again, thank you to the reps and publishers for their donations: a survey of participants identified book prizes as a unique element that contributes to the appeal of the PGI. At day's end, more than $39,000 was raised; the tournament has now contributed more than $470,000 to literacy programs throughout the province."
